Owen Garbutt
Bb Bass

Owen started playing at 6 when he went along to his local junior band in whitworth. Having started on cornet he worked his way up the bench to solo cornet. After a while he later progressed to the back row of the senior band. Whilst constantly being told he should be a bass player, he moved on to baritone, and then euphonium for a short stint, until finally giving in and taking up the Eb Bass.

After realising his true calling as a bass player he quickly became top Eb at Whitworth Vale & Healey Band, and quickly progressed, and in 2006 he became a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britian, and then taking up the BBb Bass in September 06 when starting univeristy at Salford under Professor David King, he became principle BBb Bass of the University Band, and in the principle BBb Bass of the NYBB on its easter course.

This year has also seen Owen be a member of the Young Ambassadors Brass Band, and went of tour to North America and Canada.

Owen is currently studying music at the University of Salford with tution from Mike Johnson, and he is looking forward to a long a successful time in the Fairey Band, and delighted to be playing for this famous band.
