Matt
Gilbert
Front Row
Matt first started playing the cornet at age 10 and began banding at 12 when he joined the Aldbourne band on 3rd cornet, before working his way up through the section to the front row.
Whilst at university he was bumper-up and then principal of the university band as well as playing repiano for the nearby Jaguar (Coventry) band.
On arriving in Manchester to start a PhD in Radiochemistry Matt played flugel for the Ashton-under-Lyne band, until his research studies took him to Germany for a year in the late summer of 2006. On returning to Manchester Matt is proud to have been able to join Fairey’s on the front row and continue banding after his year break on the continent.
