Jonny Shaw
Bb Bass

Jonny is currently a first year Tuba student at BCU Birmingham Conservatoire where he studies under the guidance of Stuart Bernie and David Gordon-Schute.

Hailing from Rochdale in the foothills of the Pennines, Jonny was given the chance to take up brass lessons at the age of 9, after many weeks of deliberation it was decided that his lips were way to fat to play and normal brass insrument and therefore ended up on the Eb Bombardon. After a few months he showed promise and so was immersed into the Rochdale Music Service, 10 years later, after playing for most of the groups available in the service and teaching for a few of them too they kicked him out on the grounds of being an old fuddy duddy!

In his later years at the music service his then teacher Sir Eric Landon pushed him in the direction the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. Here, Jonny worked hard, eventually working his way up through the BBb Bass section and after a few minor blips became the bands current Principal BBb Bass, also gainging the 2007 award for 'most promising brass player'.

During this time he also joined the world famous Besses o'th' Barn on Eb Bass before progressing to Principal BBb, he then moved on to the United Norwest Co-op Milnrow Band where he sat on the Solo Eb seat. Jonny then had to move away from his northern motherland to the midlands so he could pursue his ambition to be a student in Brum!
