Jeremy
Sleith was given his initial instrumental tuition through the
Manchester Music Service. He also played with local bands including
Burnage and Tintwistle bands whilst still at school. He went
on to study for a degree in music at Dartington College of Arts
where he majored in performance and composition. Whilst at Dartington
he had performances of a number of large scale works for orchestra
and choir as well as writing the first of a many jazz pieces.
Upon
his return to to the North West he continued to compose and
arrange jazz and rock pieces for his own groups and also branched
out into writing for wind band. in 1994 he had a series of
performances of his musical "Friend", a story set
in future about the perils of virtual reality and corporate
power. As a percussionist he has played with the Wingates
and Stalybridge bands as well as performing as a theatre musician
around the North West.
Since
2001 he has been the musical director of Stockport Stagesound,
a Youth Big Band for whom he has made a number of arrangements
and compositions. It is with great pleasure that he is now
associated with the Fairey Band as 'Musical Associate' and
looks forward to helping them continue to forge a unique sound
and concert repertoire.
